Tokio Hotel is a German band founded in Magdeburg, Germany in 2001 by singer Bill Kaulitz, guitarist Tom Kaulitz, drummer Gustav Schäfer and bassist Georg Listing.

The quartet have scored four number one singles and have released two number one albums in their native country, selling nearly 5 million CDs and DVDs there.

After recording an unreleased demo-CD under the name Devilish and having their contract with Sony BMG terminated, the band released their first German-language album, Schrei, as Tokio Hotel on Island Records in 2005.

Schrei sold more than half a million copies worldwide and spawned four top five singles in both Germany and Austria.

In 2007, the band released their second German album Zimmer 483 and their first English album Scream which have combined album sales of over one million copies worldwide and helped win the band their first MTV Europe Music Award for Best InterAct.

The former, Zimmer 483, spawned three top five singles in Germany while the latter, Scream, spawned two singles that reached the top twenty in new territories such as Portugal, Spain and Italy.

Their first live album, Zimmer 483 – Live In Europe, was released near the end of 2007. On 25 March 2008, Scream was released in Canada, and was planned for release on 29 April in the United States, but due to Bill Kaulitz’s vocal problems had to be postponed to 6 May.

In September 2008, they won their first MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist. They also beat bands Metallica and Linkin Park and picked up the prestigious Headliner award at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008 held in Liverpool on 6th November 2008.

Bill was voted most annoying German in 2006 by the viewers of TV network ProSieben (27 December 2006).

Bill’s step-father owns a music school called, Rock’s cool.

Bill’s favorite musicians are Nena, Green Day, Coldplay, Keane and Placebo.

Bill translated all his German songs to English for his band’s English album.

Bill is 10 minutes younger than twin brother, Tom Kaulitz.

They name their band ‘Tokio Hotel’, because they like big cities and they are always on the road and mainly stay in many hotels.

Bill is allergic to apples and mosquito bites.

Bill brings his teddy bear along with him whenever he tours.

Bill had to undergo surgery to remove a growing cyst in one of his vocal chords. (March 2008).

Their current home is where their band studio is at, in Magdeburg, Germany.

so in schrei and durch den monsun he was 13 but then they re – recorded schrei and he was 16. he and his twin brother tom, the guitarist, just turned 19 on september 1st!!! they were born september 1st 1989. bill was born 10 minuets after tom!

Their CD Zimmer 483 is all German songs, and Schrei! is also in German. Their new CD SCREAM! is Schrei! but in English. Bill was about 14 or so when he recorded Schrei. durch den monsun he was also about 14.
